107 CHAPTER 8 | Troubleshooting and recovery Figure 8-2: When you’re experiencing problems with a Store app, click the Reset button here before trying the more drastic step of uninstalling and reinstalling the app. For problems with a PC that was recently upgraded to Windows 10, consider the possibility that the device might need updated drivers or even a BIOS or firmware update. Search the PC manufacturer’s website using the model number of the device for any Windows 10-specific downloads. Not sure which model you have or which BIOS version is installed? Run the System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe) and check the top of the System Summary tab, as illustrated in Figure 8-3, for this important information. Figure 8-3: The System Information app displays useful details about the current hardware and software configuration, including basic information like the manufacturer, model, and BIOS version. As I mentioned earlier in this chapter, sometimes the most important troubleshooting question to ask is whether anything has changed recently. New software? A driver update? One way to quickly see those events is to open Reliability Monitor (start typing reli in the search box and then click View Reliability History from the search results list). The list of events is organized by day, with Critical events at the top and Informational events below that, as shown in Figure 8-4.
