80 CHAPTER 6 | Taking charge of hardware When Windows detects multiple displays, it shows a thumbnail of each display in the Settings page. Figure 6-3 shows my desktop, with a very wide 34-inch display on the left and a narrower display of the same height on the right. Figure 6-3: Go ahead and drag the thumbnail images of the displays in this dialog box so that they match your physical configuration. Not sure which monitor is which? Click Identify. Here are a few helpful hints to pass along to anyone with multiple monitors: Not sure which display number in Settings goes with your monitors? Click Identify to briefly show the display number on each monitor. Those thumbnails move. If display 2 is actually on the left side of display 1, use the mouse to drag it to the correct position. You can move thumbnails up and down, too. If your monitors aren’t perfectly matched, you might find that the mouse pointer jumps up or down as it moves between displays. To fix that, move the corresponding thumbnail in Display Settings up or down slightly until the pointer is in alignment on both monitors.
