29 CHAPTER 2 | Personalizing the Windows 10 experience Action Center Windows has a few things to say. So do some of your apps. In the past, those messages would have been delivered as “toast” alerts: small pop-ups in the lower- right corner of the screen that appear for a few seconds and then vanish. With Windows 10, those messages have a more persistent home in the Action Center, which appears on the right side of the screen when you swipe in from the right edge of the display on a touchscreen device or click the notifications icon in the lower-right corner of the taskbar. The Action Center also includes an assortment of Quick Action buttons at the bottom of that pane. Beginning with the Anniversary Update (version 1607), you can add, remove, and rearrange these buttons. Go to Settings > System > Notifications & Actions to work with the options shown in Figure 2-11. Figure 2-11: If you find notifications more annoying then helpful, consider setting some or all of these sliders to Off. Those notifications can be tremendously helpful or downright annoying, depending on your preferences and your mood. Turning off the Show App Notifications button is the most drastic response.
