If you find the most-used-apps list superfluous, turn it off to clear its space. On PCs you own and control, how you choose to arrange Start is strictly a matter of personal preference. (In corporate settings, administrators might dictate an initial layout and restrict other settings.) You can, for example, make any of the following changes:  Customize the list of icons in the left column By default, that slender column of icons just above the Start button shows your user profile picture and a Power button as well as icons for File Explorer and Settings. You can remove either of those last two items and add some shortcuts to commonly used folders, such as Documents and Downloads. You can also opt to show icons for your user profile folder.
