For users who prefer an alternative web browser, it’s easy enough to switch. After installing the browser, open Settings > System > Default Apps, click the program listed beneath the Web Browser heading, and then choose the alternative. Say hello to Cortana Just to the right of the Start button is a search box. By default, it acts much like its counterpart in earlier Windows versions. Type something in that box and you get a list of matching apps, settings, files, photos, and so on. That box serves a second purpose, as well, but only after the user specifically activates the Cortana service. With the option turned on, Cortana functions as an intelligent assistant, able to provide answers, reminders, news, and other information that’s based on the user’s interests and activities. Figure 1-10 shows Cortana in action.
